Investment castings can offer many advantages in the production of metal components, especially where complex shapes are required. Most rough machining operations can be eliminated; there is a greater freedom of design; lighter and cleaner looking components can be made; assembled items may be replaced with ‘one-piece’ castings - All these advantages embodied in the widest range of materials.

Technical caracteristics:

  • tolerances ± 0,125 mm per 25 mm depending on the complexity of the component
  • no burrs and continous joint
  • no ejection
  • surface : 3,2 microns (N8, 125 CLA)
  • tool : aluminium tools are used for the productions of wax forms; tool costs are quiet low, modifications can be done easily and the life time of the tool is excellent
  • size: length < 5mm to more than 600 mm
  • quantity : the quantity depends on the size and the part's complexity, the economical production is around 100 parts but lot sizes of 25 parts are very frequent
  • rapid prototyping: use of stereolithography or similar method of prototyping; quick prototyping and samples

Alloys :

  • Tool steels or stainless steel (heat resisting steals)
  • Nickel and cobalt based alloys
  • Magnetic irons
  • Aluminium and zinc alloys
  • Brass and bronze
